Minami Sado Area

Visitors can take a stroll through the old town of Shukunegi, which flourished as a Kitamae-bune port of call, and experience the "tarai-bune" (tub boat) unique to the Minami Sado area. The crystal clear sea and unique coastline formed by lava rocks also make for a photogenic photo experience.

Blue Cave

The sea-eroded cave in Kotoura has somehow come to be known as the Blue Cave. Daytime is recommended for the blue color of the sea outside the cave. If the sunlight is strong enough, the surface of the rocks will be so white that it may be difficult to take a beautiful picture without a polarizing filter or other equipment. Access from the sea by motorboat of Rikiya Kanko Kisen or sea kayak is recommended.

Manjojiki

A flat lava terrain located near Sawasaki, Ogi. At high tide when there is no wind, the surface of the water becomes like a mirror of the sky, like the Salar de Uyuni. It is especially recommended during sunset season in autumn, when the sun is setting, making it a spectacular spot. Also, at night, the stars reflected on the surface of the water are beautiful and the Milky Way looks gorgeous so be sure to take pictures.

Yajima / Kyojima

Yajima / Kyojima are a landscape that looks like something out of a fairy tale. The sight of tarai tub-boats bobbing below the vermillion-painted arched bridge is a scene unique to Sado Island. The boat house and the crystal clear ocean are beautiful when viewed from the side of the bridge, making it a great spot for photographing the scenery from either side. The tub boat also has a window in the center that allows visitors to look into the water.

Shukunegi

This is a port town where Sengoku ships used to come and go. Sayuri Yoshinaga's commercial made this small village known by many people. The triangular house built by a ship's carpenter is a must-see subject for photography. The precincts of the temple at the back of the village also have a somewhat different and solemn atmosphere, and it is wonderful to see the constant flow of flowers offered to the temple throughout the year. You can also take a tub boat ride here, so try it for yourself.

Kofuku Jizo

The world's largest Jizo (Bodhisattva) statue. The best time to visit is around the end of September when higanbana (Lycoris radiata) are in full bloom. The contrast of red flowers, green trees, white Jizo and blue sky is beautiful. Nighttime is also recommended, as you can photograph a composition as if you are praying to the starry sky. Be careful of mosquitoes, as there are many.
