  • Course Outline

Cedars have an image of straight lines. However, the natural cedars of Sado Island have withstood the harsh environment of winter snowfall and strong seasonal winds blowing from the continent for many years, and as a result, they have developed strong and beautiful shapes with curves. The promenade is an easy way to see this beauty right in front of your eyes. The surface of the trail is covered with woodchips, which make it very easy to walk on.

  • Equipment and Clothing

The trail is well maintained and easy to walk on. Although some people do not cover their legs or arms from May through August, please be reminded that this is a natural area at an altitude of 900 meters where bees, flies and pit vipers live. Long pants and a long-sleeved shirt are recommended. Lightweight gloves are also recommended. Please feel free to use the hand-made walking sticks available in the parking lot.

  • ウッドチップが敷き詰められた遊歩道

    Woodchip-paved promenade

On this promenade you can see five giant trees with characteristic shapes that were named by the public. Starting from the entrance, you can see "Zoge-sugi", "Shitenno-sugi", "Oguro-sugi", "Kazoku-sugi" and "Hagoromo-sugi."

  • 四天王杉

    Shitenno-sugi (Four Leaders)

When you stand in front of these giant trees, try to not only admire their beauty, but also enjoy whether or not you can immediately understand their names and why they were named as they are.

  • 象⽛杉

    Zoge-sugi (Elephantesque)

At the trail end, take the traverse route leading to the Donden Highland and you will find a viewing deck.

  • 天然杉のトンネル

    Natural Cedar Tunnel

Looking out over the sea below, you may realize that the beauty of the natural cedars you saw before is only possible because of the harsh environment of this island in the Sea of Japan.

  • 展望台からの眺め

    View from the viewing deck
