On Sado, the second largest island in the Japan sea after Okinawa, seasonal changes and the surrounding ocean enrich local food ingredients, and make it an ideal destination for outdoor sports. Sado is also a popular destination for long-term stays, where traditional culture, such as the iconic taiko drumming exemplified by Kodo, continues to thrive.

Inaugurating in 2024, the Sado Island Heritage Festival promises events that celebrates the performing arts and culinary delights shaped by the island's rich history and diverse climate.

The "Sado Gold Mine," registered as a World Cultural Heritage Site, will be transformed into a fantastic space that you cannot usually experience!

The Historic Site Sado Gold Mine, which is not usually open to the public, will be opened to the public at night and illuminated by projection mapping and the lighting up of Doyu no Warido, the symbol of the "Sado Island Gold Mine,  For a limited time only, the Doyu no Warido, the symbol of the "Gold Mine on Sado Island," will be illuminated.  Visitors can enjoy an extraordinary space while walking from the Doyu Kogen exit to just below the Doyu Wari-do

Indulge in a gastronomic journey that features rich ingredients from Sado Island, expertly prepared over a wood fire and paired with regional sake and wine, enjoy local delicacies with performances by local artists. Chief chef for this event, the esteemed Tyler Burgis, initially ventured to Japan as chef for DINING OUT WAJIMA with LEXUS. Fascinated by the richness of Japanese food culture and its ingredients, he has since helmed SMOKE DOOR in Yokohama, Kanagawa as executive chef since 2022, garnering acclaim from gourmands both within Japan and internationally.

This premium dining experience is not to be missed!
Savor seven exquisite dishes featuring locally-sourced Sado ingredients, complemented by the finest sake and wine from Sado Island, all set against the magnificent backdrop of the illuminated Doyu no Warito, the iconic symbol of the Sado Gold Mine, in Takato Park.

Island Dream in Sado Island Jazz Festival

Island Dream in Sado Island Jazz Festival

「Island Dream in Sado Island」is a free jazz festival held on Sado Island. The event, held in August 2023, featured 11 artists from Japan and abroad, and a special theme song, "Shimayume ~Island Dream~," performed in collaboration with Sado's world-class taiko drumming group, Kodo.

The 2023 event was a hit, so we are looking forward to the 2024 show!
