Osado Ishina Natural Cedar Forest

According to the temple's book of origin, it was founded in 807. The spring bubbling up by the sanmon gate (the first gate to the temple) is the miraculous water of the inner shrine, Dantokusan, which is also the sacred mountain where monks practise mokujiki. 190 years after Mokujiki Tansei (a Buddhist monk enlightened in Sado around 1600), Mokujiki Gyodo, a nomadic monk, visited Sado in 1781-1789, and reconstructed a Buddhist hall in the area where Mokujiki Tansei practised ascetic disciplines. There, statues of Seated Yakushinyorai (Bhaisajyaguru: the Buddha of healing and medicine) and Standing Jizo (the guardian deity of children) were put up. The big ginkgo tree is Sado City's designated natural monument, and it is worshipped as a ginkgo of fertility, or a spiritual tree with healing effects for gastroenteropathy.

Mount Donden, officially named Mt Tadaramine, is the whole highland area including three mountains above 900m. As the nickname,originated from the word "donden", which means roundtop mountain, indicates, Mount Donden is located at the heart of steep Osado Mountains and solely appears with modest inclines among the mountains. The surrounding area is a treasury of alpine plants and wildflowers. Mount Donden is one of the new Top 100 Mountains and TOP 100 Mountains of Flowers in Japan and many trekkers visit there from April towards early Summer.

Donden Sanso, situated right in the middle of the traverse course on Osado Mountains, has been loved by hikers and tourists who visit Osado Mountains such as Mt Donden, one of the Top 100 Mountains with Flowers in Japan. Seafood, riches of the soil special to Sado, and delicious rice are popular among visitors. The view from the deck is stunning, and you can look out to the mountain ranges in Echigo on the mainland when the weather is clear. Sunrise and starry night skies are also fantastic.

Ryoso Minato takes pride in its sea front location, and meals packed full of seafood caught with bag-shaped nets and caught at Takachi Fishing Port. You can enjoy a specialty dish "Ika Somen (literally "squid noodles": fine strips of fresh squid) served with home-made sauce at the restaurant on site. Nyuzaki Beach is located at a 5-minute walk from the inn, where you can enjoy camping and barbecue. The inn is also located close to the Ishige trekking route, and the entry point to the Sado natural cedar trees route. You can simultaneously enjoy the mountains and the sea to your satisfaction.

Using an abundance of seasonal island produce and incorporating knowledge of medicinal herbs, we offer a menu that is sure to please the body. The restaurant was established by a couple who moved to Mushizaki, which used to be a marginal community with a population of 17. Please enjoy the local tourism that can be enjoyed only in a small community.
