Tassha Coast

Tassha Beach is situated in the scenic Senkakuwan Bay. The tranquil, deeply indented inlet is protected by levees and concrete blocks, so it is calm in inclement weather. The water is crystal clear, creating a quiet environment where you can hear the songs of the black-tailed gulls. Close from the Aikawa town centre (approximately ten minutes by car), the beach is popular with families and youngsters in high season. The name "Tassha" derives from the folk tale of Anju.

Senkakuso is a long-established inn with over 60 years of history, perched on a scenic hill. The dishes served reflect a meticulous attitude towards fish, locally caught in the Sotokaifu area, and allow you to feast on a variety of seasonal seafoods. Senkakuso is ideally located within walking distance of great fishing spots and the Tassha Coast. Loved by celebrities, including Dr Reischauer, an American intellectual, Senkakuso was named by Kazuo Kikuta, who wrote a famous book Kimi no Na Wa (What is Your Name?). The atmospheric furniture also evokes a sense of history.

The story of "Sansho-Dayu" is famous for the tale of Anju and Zushio. In it, the grown-up Zushio and his blind mother are reunited, and rejoice over finding the other in good health ("tassha" in Japanese) at Tassha Coast in Sado. Water still bubbles up at the place where the mother washed her eyes, and Mearai Jizo is enshrined there. Anju Jizo Hall stands nearby, where a bath with the spring water has been set up by locals and is available for use.

Guesthouse Sudareso is located in the southernmost point of the Senkakuwan area, conveniently close to Tassha Beach. A 3-minute walk from the inn through alleyways in a village leads to Himezu Port, which is known as a squid fishing base. You will feast on dishes prepared skillfully with fresh seafood, which is caught by the Okami female manager's father, a local fisherman, or caught at local ports. Minshuku Sudareso is an inn with a family home atmosphere and receives repeat guests, from fishermen who have visited over 30 years to families who visit annually.

Guesthouse Senkakuwan stands directly next to Senkakuwan Ageshima Yuen. The inn is perfectly located for exploring Aikawa and Sotokaifu in the neighbourhood of Marine Park in Senkakuwan Bay and Tassha Bathing Beach. Guesthouse Senkakuwan treats guests to fresh, locally caught seafood including deluxe sashimi served on a ship-shaped platter for dinner. The guesthouse is a friendly place where tourists and locals can casually pop-in and enjoy menu items such as set meals and donburi (rice with toppings) prepared with special seafood.

Senkakuwan Ageshima Yuen is a tourist attraction of Ageshima Kyowan (narrow bay), the fifth most scenic spot at Senkakuwan Bay. From the observation deck, you can enjoy a dynamic, panoramic view. The surrounding area is a marine park, designated as one of Japan's 100 Scenic Foreshores. You can also enjoy a cruise around the bay, and the underwater world, aboard a glass-bottom boat (for a fee). On site, there are also an aquarium, which is home to fish found in the sea surrounding Sado, and a resource centre, which displays panels about a famous Japanese film, "Kimi no Na Wa" [What is Your Name?

Located in the Kitazawa Floating Ore Dressing Plant, a historic site, the restaurant offers a spectacular view of the ore dressing plant as well as the 50-meter thickener. The restaurant offers Western-style cuisine, mainly featuring Sado Island Kurobuta pork, which is raised by Ryokan Urashima. We also offer drinks only, including original drinks supervised by Ryokan Urashima.

This relaxing, tranquil restaurant was converted from the home of a mine captain on Aikawa's Kyomachi Street. Highlights include hand-kneaded soba noodles made from home-grown-and-ground buckwheat, soba croquettes, and soba shiruko (sweet red bean soup with soba dumplings). This restaurant is open on Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays only.
