Tub Boat Rides
"Tub-boat" Rikiya Kanko Kisen
You cannot talk about Sado's special tub-boats without mentioning Rikiya Kanko Kisen. Lady skippers skillfully shift the oars, and this is a unique experience that you will never forget. Other popular activities are a cruise around Nansenkyo (the best part of the Ogi Coast) and Sawasaki Lighthouse aboard a high-speed pleasure boat, and another speedy cruise on a high-speed motor boat, to visit other scenic spots. The waiting room houses a ticket booth, souvenir shop and light-meal eatery.

Yajima Taiken Koryukan (experience & exchange centre)
Yajima Taiken Koryukan is nestled at the back of a cove with a view of Yajima and Kyojima. You can enjoy a tub-boat ride in the picturesque scenery of the Sado Geopark and Sado-Yahiko-Yoneyama Quasi-National Park. The centre also offers an array of workshops such as fishing from the rocky shore, dried squid making and soba (buckwheat noodles) making. (Please contact the centre for details.) At the eatery, you will experience the delights of soba and udon noodles with nagamo seaweed.

Tub Boat Rides
Hangiri (washtub boats) in Shukunegi
Take a ride on a hangiri (washtub boat) and explore the world at sea level. The hangiri have been an essential fishing tool for people living on the Ogi Peninsula since old times. Each boat is handmade using cedar and bamboo grown on Sado. In front of the retro backdrop of Shukunegi Town, you will be leisurely guided along the rocky and otherworldly shore created by the earth over a long period of time. This is an eco-friendly slow 'cruise,' navigated by a local skipper who speaks in the Ogi dialect.

Futatsugame Beach
As you walk down the parking area, you will reach the Futatsugame Bathing Beach, a popular spot where you can enjoy sea-bathing up close to the Futatsugame Rocks. The crystal clear water and beach have been selected as one of the Top 100 Sea-Bathing Spots in Japan, and was awarded two stars by the Michelin's Green Guide. The beach has stunningly clear water and is a beautiful scenic spot. There is a campsite and the SADO Futatsugame View Hotel adjoining the beach, making it an ideal base for exploring Sotokaifu.

Shiozu no Sato
Shiozu no Sato stands on open ground in the heights overlooking Mano Bay. It has a spacious front garden where you can enjoy camping or a barbecue, and is ideal for school trips, sports training camps, and other excursions. In addition, Shiozu no Sato offers opportunities for a variety of activities on the themes of food and marine leisure, including noroma puppet painting, and stonework, among others. A base for exploration in Sado or relaxation, Shiozu no Sato is accommodation offering hands-on experiences, suitable for a variety of purposes.

Sawata Beach
Sawata Beach is just a 2-minute walk from the Kawaharada's Shopping Street. Nestled in Mano Bay, the beach is shallow and the waters are calm. It is conveniently located in the central area of Sado with an easy access to other parts in Sado, and attracts many beachgoers during the high season. There is a range of restaurants and accommodation within walking distance, so this area can be a perfect base for sightseeing in Sado. There is a free campsite, Kubota Campround, in an adjoining pine grove.

Gashima Cinema
Gashima Cinema is located on historical Kyomachi Street, which connects Sado Gold and Silver Mine with the Sado Commissioner's Office. This former residence of the Sado Gold Mine captain, built about 80 years ago, has been converted into a café while maintaining the ambiance of the olden days. A monthly featured film is shown daily, and a monthly book corner provides movie-related books. An old carbon arc film projector, which was once used at an actual movie theatre, is on display. This spot is perfect for a break on a stroll through history, in the old mining town of Aikawa.

Fusubemura
Fusubemura is a hands-on learning centre located in Kodomari, with an accommodation available on-site. One cottage contains a dining room, living room and bedrooms for five people, and this is perfect for families and groups of friends. While staying in the spacious centre, you can enjoy making your original pieces of work in workshops including classes for pottery, rag-weaving, bamboo craft, etc. The surrounding natural environment such as Sobama Bathing Beach is also fascinating.

Sado Gold and Silver Mine Information Center Kirarium Sado
A gateway to the mine, Information Center Kirarium Sado serves as a base for exploring the site. The center will navigate you through the historical value and attractions of the mine in an easy-to-follow manner, using a variety of videos and scroll paintings. The center also utilizes guide maps and apps to provide useful information about the site and to recommend walking routes.

Taiko Drumming Experience
Sado Island Taiko Centre (Tatakokan)
Sado Island Taiko Centre is run by Kodo Cultural Foundation, located on the hill in the neighbourhood of Kodo Village. The spacious hall constructed using Sado-produced timber produces joyful resonance. Tatakokan is home to two huge taiko drums that were hand-carved from an enormous 600-year-old keyaki (Japanese zelkova) log. "Taiko Experience" programs led by the Taiko Centre's instructors and a range of other events are on offer. The hall, exhibition room and a Japanese-style room are also available for rent.

Ogi Diving Center・Clubhouse
Ogi Diving School is a clubhouse and home for divers, situated on an inlet with crystal clear water in Kotoura. It takes just 1 minute on foot to the ship departure point for diving sites. You can also go on an adventure in the mysterious caves in Kotoura. Please relax and unwind yourself at nearby onsen hot spring Ogi no Yu after a day of diving. Guests can have a great time together while eating dishes made from locally-sourced ingredients.

Sunrise Jogahama
Sunrise Jogahama is an inn located in Akadomari, in the refreshing environment of southeast Sado, that offers hands-on experiences. As the name suggests, you can see the sun rising above the horizon from guest rooms. In front of the inn lies Jogahama Bathing Beach and behind it are mountains abundant in nature, making Sunrise Jogahama ideal for school trips and training camps as well as ordinary stays and banquets. Workshops on offer include soba noodle-making, fishing from a rocky shore, and folktale retelling, providing a glance at the culture of Sado.

Aikawa Gino Densho Tenjikan (Aikawa Traditional Skills Museum)
Aikawa Gino Densho Tenjikan offers opportunities to learn about traditional art handed down from generation to generation in Aikawa. The museum offers hands-on experiences of Mumyoiyaki, an art which uses potter's clay produced in the gold mine, and rag-weaving on a traditional back-strap loom with careful instruction by staff members. Pottery by artists in Sado, rag-weaving works, and Bunya puppets are on display. The museum sits right in the middle of the tourist area with Kitazawa Flotation Plant and Aikawa Folk Museum.

Jogahama Beach
Jogahama Beach is a tranquil beach with a width of 150 metres. With clear water perfect for swimming, the beach features impressive white sand. You can enjoy the sand on the clean, small-scale beach, making it perfect for families with small children. As the beach is conveniently located next to the accommodation "Sunrise Jogahama" which offers day-trip hot spring services, you can refresh yourself with a hot spring bath after sea-bathing.

Sobama Beach
Sobama Beach features one of the few long sandy beach in Sado, stretching four kilo metres. The water is crystal clear, and the swimming area is the largest in Sado. It is a secluded beach away from the town centre, and there are no houses nearby. Although the beach is a shoal, it is an unparalleled location for fully enjoying the pristineness of the waters and bathe. There are free campsite and lodges adjacent to the beach. Sobama Beach is currently attracting the attention of many people as a great base for exploring Sado.

Tassha Beach
Tassha Beach is situated in the scenic Senkakuwan Bay. The tranquil, deeply indented inlet is protected by levees and concrete blocks, so it is calm in inclement weather. The water is crystal clear, creating a quiet environment where you can hear the songs of the black-tailed gulls. Close from the Aikawa town centre (approximately ten minutes by car), the beach is popular with families and youngsters in high season. The name "Tassha" derives from the folk tale of Anju.

Umaimon-ya (farm shop)
Umaimon-ya's retail focuses on locally produced foodstuffs, prepared foods, and processed foods. Here, local producers and their spouses personally sell and give you hints about how to prepare and cook their bounty. Mumyouiyaki Gyokudou Kamamoto
Mumyouiyaki Gyokudou Kamamoto is a pottery gallery and gift shop with its factory in the Hatano area. You can, not only, see, touch, and purchase potteries, but also create your own pottery at workshops (throwing or hand carving courses), for a fee.

Dive Shop and School Freeway, Sado Branch
Dive Shop & School Freeway is located in the Sawata area in central Sado. They offer advice for everyone, from novice to expert. You can get your diving certification, through PADI licensing courses, after 3 to 4 lessons. Freeway offers personal instruction according to each participant's level and purpose, and provides introductions to various kinds of diving. You will be guided into the beautiful sea as it changes with the seasons.

Akagame Kazashima Nagisa Park Beach
The stretch of Maehama Coast has a beautiful, gentle coastline. The beach opens out to a scenic park, where gigantic rocks "Kazashima Benten" and "Akagameiwa (Red Turtle Rock)" lie. Just off the Sado's Ring Road, the crystal clear water and beautiful pebbles of the beach await for you, allowing you to have an experience as though you own a private-beach! There is a turf-fitted campsite within the park as well.

Toki no Sato Golf Club
Toki no Sato Golf Club has the only authentic course with eighteen holes in Sado. On the outward nine overlooking Mano Bay, the swells and slops add more excitement. The inward nine with a variety of undulating fairways features the tricky layout dotted with bunkers and trees. The club house is in a great location on the hill top of the Kosado mountains.

Shiroyama Park
Shiroyama Park is located up on a hill facing the sea. After hiking the steep, cobbled path to the top, a large, open green stretches out before you. The park features trail paths, a resting point, a viewpoint and a monument inscribed with a poem written by Koyo Ozaki, a famous novelist and poet closely associated with the area. The park is filled with seasonal flowers: about 3,000 camellia trees come into full bloom from the beginning of February until early April, 500 cherry trees, dwarf azaleas and hydrangea. Shiroyama Park is a popular relaxing place among locals in the Ogi area.

Nyuzaki Beach
Nyuzaki Beach is located in the Takachi area of Sotokaifu. The pebble beach stretches approximately one kilo metre, and the waters are amazingly clear. Some areas are rocky shore, which are known as a great fishing spot. A campsite laid down with turf sits next to the beach, making the combination a perfect place for sea-bathing and camping. Set against the backdrop of Nyugawa Valley, Nyuzaki Beach is situated in a fascinating natural surrounding. At the beach, you can enjoy a wide variation of outdoor activities, including sea-bathing, fishing from the rocky shore, and exploring the seashore.

F.WAVE guides you to the best diving spots according to the state of the sea and also offers trekking tours mainly in the Osado Mountains. F.WAVE's style is to keep guests in small groups so that they can be guided with special attention and instruction through the eco tours. F.WAVE's reception desk is on the second floor of Sado Kisen Ryotsu Ferry Terminal from April until November, and offers rental services outdoor goods and sells them too.
