Sado Kanzo (Amur daylily) Festival

Indulge yourself in the stunning landscape and local performing arts of Sotokaifu!

The surrounding area of Onogame, a landmark of the Sotokaifu Coast, is home to 500,000 Amur daylily (Tobishima kanzo) plants, resulting in over one million blooms bursting open in June. This cluster of flowers is supposedly the largest of its kind in Japan, and the view is well known as one of the best scenic spots in the Sea of Japan. The festival features performances of Kaifu Taiko drumming, Ondeko (demon drumming) and Sado's folk songs, against a background of blue sky and yellow flowers. Ondeko performed in the light of a bonfire induces a distinctive ambience at dusk on the festival's eve.

  • Ondeko (Deity mask dance)
  • Sado Okesa (folk song and dance)
  • Ryotsu Jinku (folk song)
  • Aikawa Ondo (folk song and dance)
